What the Assistant Teacher does:
The Assistant Teacher supports classroom programming and instruction for students, working closely with teachers and program staff to ensure a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.
The Assistant Teacher assists with:
- Supporting individual, small-group, and whole-class instruction as directed by the teacher
- Assisting in daily classroom organization, planning, and preparation
- Monitoring and recording student behavior data and progress
- Assisting with point sheets, reports, and classroom documentation
- Implementing individualized behavior programs and classroom systems
- Supervising students to ensure safety at all times, including bus duty, off-campus activities, and transitions
- Supporting vocational programming as needed in coordination with the vocational team
- Supervising the classroom in the absence of the teacher when assigned
- Communicating with PHILLIPS staff and supporting collaboration across the team
- Assisting with medication administration, data collection, and other program-related tasks
- Attending meetings, trainings, and professional development as required
- Performing other duties as assigned
What the Assistant Teacher brings to the team:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Experience working with children or adolescents, preferably in a school or special education setting
- Interest or experience in vocational or hands-on learning environments is a plus
- Ability to support students with behavioral and emotional needs in a structured setting
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
- Reliable, consistent, and able to work as part of a collaborative team
