Job Description
In your position as Assistant Teacher, your duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Hours of Work
• Arrive no later than 20 minutes before class so that you are ready to start working 15 minutes before class starts
• Stay until the last child leaves, everything is put away and any other tasks for the teacher are finished (be prepared for this to take more than 15 minutes!)
• If you are going to be absent, find a replacement at least a week ahead of time
• In cases of sudden illness, try to find a replacement and if not, let the office know by 1:00 pm
Assisting Students
• Keep a full set of class notes and ensure that students get any missed work
• Complete all of the homework yourself at least one week ahead of the class
• Before class, get students settled and answer any homework questions
• During the teaching period, walk around class and help students organize and write good notes and ensure that they are on task
• Help weaker students during class - sit beside them if necessary!
Attendance
• For the Assistant Teacher, this include lateness, absents, and homework not done
• Phone parents if a student is absent 15 minutes after class starts
• Let them know if there have been any missed tests or handouts
• Ensure that everything is fine (i.e.. parents know the child is not at class)
Marking
• Some marking during the week. This includes True/False or multiple choice type questions, ensure that you have marked it by the next class and you are there to hand it to the teacher
