About Central Park and the Central Park Conservancy

Central Park is one of the world's most famous and beloved urban public spaces. Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux in 1858, the 843-acre Park was the country's first purpose-built public park and is a National Historic Landmark and a New York Scenic Landmark. The Central Park Conservancy, a private, not-for-profit organization, was founded in 1980 to rescue the Park which had fallen into serious disrepair. Since then, the Conservancy has overseen the investment of close to$2 billionin the restoration and management of theParkwhich now hosts over 40 million visitors a year.

The Conservancy’s mission is to preserve and celebrate Central Park as a sanctuaryfromurban life. The City of New York has formally entrusted the care of the Park to the Conservancy whichis responsible forevery aspect of its care, including landscape maintenance, capital improvements, and the visitor experience. The Conservancy employsroughly 400people and has an annual operating budget of $120 million.

The Central Park Conservancy seeks an AssistantSurvey Manager toprovide part-timesurvey shift coverage for the Conservancy’syear-long,UserSurvey and visitation count.The projectconsists of manual visitation counts and collecting exit surveys via tabletsat entrancesacross thePark,acrossall seasonsand in all types of weather

Working under the general supervision of the Director, andin close collaboration withthe Survey Manager, theAssistantSurvey Managerwillberesponsible forin-Parkshift supervisionapproximately one day per week. The Assistant Manager’s schedule will include a minimum of two Sundays per month in addition toproviding coverage for the Survey manager’s vacation and sick days, and other days as is necessary.

Essential Duties

  • Serve asmanager and primary point-of-contact for contracted surveyors when they are working in thePark

  • Provide technicalassistancetocontractedsurveyors,providingcoaching as needed

  • Manageallsurveyequipment and suppliesahead of and after each survey shift radios, tablets, uniforms, etc.

  • Step in to conduct surveysvisitor countsand perform general survey operation tasks as needed

MinimumRequirements

-Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college in a related field; 6 years of experience, preferably in the field of visitor engagement and/orsocial science research, including a minimum of3years in the management and supervision of others;or

-Valid Drivers’ License that must bemaintainedfor the duration of employment

Possess a fundamental understanding and knowledge of project management and visitor engagement management using modern practices; experience in high-visitationsettingis desirable

-Ability to provide both oral and written communication that is easily understood and direct in its content

-Ability toengagecritical thinking skills that allow for prioritizing issues, coordinating multiple projects,problem solving, and managing eventlogistics

Ability to interact with the public in a courteous, diplomatic, and professional mannerat all times

-Ability to serve as a collaborative and flexible part of a team

-Workwill includeweekends,early mornings,evenings, holidaysandbeingoutdoors in all seasons

-Ability to lift 30 lbs. and perform work that requireslong periodsof standing, walking to various locations throughout thePark,as needed, and driving
