Under the supervision of the District Works Supervisor, the successful candidate will ensure all work is performed in accordance within established service levels and legislation including providing leadership of full-time and temporary/seasonal staff and assisting in supervision of contracted seasonal maintenance programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with approved service levels and industry best practices, and in compliance with City policies/procedures and Provincial/Federal legislation.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, mentoring, coaching, and training to full-time and temporary/seasonal staff.
  • Assist in supervision of contracted seasonal maintenance programs.
  • Ensure compliance by staff with all occupational health and safety standards and procedures.
  • Assist in development and presentation of standard operating procedures, “tailgate/toolbox” topics, staff training, and contractor orientations.
  • Assist/manage staff issues including recruitment, investigations and performance/behavior improvement including performance management/progressive discipline.
  • Assigned rotational on call basis year-round and shift work outside regular day shift hours.
  • Assigned as required and on rotational basis to all Works Yards.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Possess a C.Tech. or CRS designation or have the ability and commitment to obtain either designation within a prescribed timeline.
  • Minimum three years’ municipal supervision/project management/leadership experience in engineering, construction or operations preferably in a unionized environment.
  • A combination of relevant education and work experience may be considered equivalent.
  • Demonstrated competence in physical and psychological health and safety, leadership, supervision, mentoring, coaching, training, communication, accountability, diplomacy, customer service, collaboration, continuous improvement/empowering change, and equity, and diversity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated support and execution of the City’s Vision and Core Values – Trust, Quality and Excellence.
  • Demonstrated competency with Microsoft Office programs and other City applications.
  • Demonstrated understanding and execution of the collective agreement, City policies/procedures, and Provincial/Federal legislation.
  • Must have valid Province of Ontario driver’s license in good standing with minimum demerit points as determined by the City, and ability to use City/personal vehicle.

Salary: $ 91,701.00 - $ 122,268.00
