Education/Certification Required:

  • Master's degree in education
  • Texas Administrator's Certificate
  • Required: must attain certification in T-TESS and T-PESS within three months of hire

Technology Proficiency Required: Level 2

Experience Required:

  • Three years experience as classroom teacher
  • Three years successful experience in school administration
  • Must have three or mores years experience as a principal
  • Preferred: Principal experience in assigned area

Function

Assists in ensuring the development of principals, and the implementation of the curriculum and instructional programs in all schools. Assists the District in three accountability areas into the total educational framework: 1) student performance/achievement; 2) effective development and appraisal of principals; and 3) District's effectiveness in response to the needs of the campuses, as appropriate. The responsibilities of the position include facilitating and maintaining smooth, orderly, and effective operations, developing school leaders and promoting instructional programs that enhance student achievement.

Responsibilities:

INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT:

  • Reviews, provides suggestions, and monitors implementation of the campus continuous improvement plans.
  • Provides input into the development of academic programs, including the curricular design, instructional organization, and budgetary components for the purpose of providing comprehensive educational opportunities for students.
  • Serves as an instructional leader in the coordination and implementation of District curriculum and state standards.
  • Facilitates professional development opportunities for principals based on identified campus and/or District needs.
  • Assists in setting District instructional and curricular goals and formulates plans of action for achievement of identified state and District goals.
  • Assists campus administrators, Campus Advisory Teams (CAT), and faculties in operational and instructional efforts to reach state, District, and campus initiatives/goals to improve student achievement.

SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION CLIMATE:

  • Facilitates the implementation of the District's instructional programs though collaboration with campus and central office staff by providing effective leadership development and support services to all elementary, middle, and high school campuses.

SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL IMPROVEMENT:

  • Ensures the implementation of District curriculum and state standards.
  • Facilitates vertical and horizontal learning communities.
  • Serves as first line administrator at central office level to help ensure instructional achievement and school improvement at all campuses.
  • Coordinates, organizes, and collects information from all District departments that is needed from campuses yearly.
  • Assists principals in the interpretation and implementation of all District policies, regulations, and directives.
  • Assists in revising and updating board policies, regulations, and administrative directives based on federal- and state-mandated changes and local administrative and Board of Trustees' decisions.
  • Provides assistance and support to principals while observing, modeling, and sharing strategies and ideas for leadership development
  • Serves as an instructional leader by sharing and applying knowledge of current research and mandates at principals' meetings.

PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT:

  • Evaluates the performance of the assigned campus administrators.

ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAUFACILITIES MANAGEMENT:

  • Provides proactive and effective leadership in all aspects of campus and District administration issues and concerns.
  • Maintains information regarding all aspects of campus operations.
  • Assists Director for Leadership Development with the organization of leadership development for principals and assistant principals.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT:

  • Provides leadership and professional development experiences for principals and assistant principals.
  • Shares knowledge of current research, significant developments/trends and state/local policies and directives with campuses, central office colleagues, and community members.

SCHOOL COMMUNITY RELATIONS:

  • Serves as a mediator to help resolve conflicts on issues.
  • Ensures that major issues and incidents at the campus level are discussed with or reported to the Assistant Superintendent for School Leadership Services.
  • Serves as a contact person between the central office, the campuses, parents, and the community.
  • Provides leadership to principals in the promotion of positive community relations.
  • Fosters partnerships among campuses, parents, and local businesses/organizations to create a supportive relationship benefiting students and the community.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for School Leadership Services.
  • Works cooperatively with curriculum staff to provide assistance to campuses.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises and evaluates the performance of support staff within the department.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures and data; coordinate District functions and maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Frequent district-wide and occasional out-of-district travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours

  • Use of standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
  • Ability to receive information and/or instruction from internal/external customers through spoken expression.
  • Ability to manipulate tools/equipment/keyboards.

  • Occasional districtwide and statewide travel required
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver's license
