Assistant Superintendent – Mt. Vernon, IN
This is an exempt, salaried-level position.

About the Role
As an Assistant Superintendent on our team, you will support the Superintendent in leading all day-to-day activities of our grain elevator. This includes overseeing loading and unloading, sampling, grading, transferring, blending, and storage of goods. You will help maintain a safe, sanitary workplace in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, DNR, DOT, etc.), while training and leading hourly and salaried employees in operations, safety, and facility maintenance.

What You'll Do

  • Execute plans according to the work schedule, prioritize shift work, and assign resources to effectively utilize each team member's experience, training, and abilities
  • Champion the safety of all personnel through compliance with occupational safety and health regulations, demonstrating safety leadership through active participation in all safety processes with a goal of zero injuries
  • Oversee daily plant operations, including safety and environmental compliance, food safety, quality control, production, cost optimization, and operational efficiency
  • Identify environmental, safety, and GMP hazards and take prompt action to eliminate risks that could affect employee safety, product quality, or environmental standards
  • Address employee concerns and maintain open communication and positive morale across your shift and department
  • Work alongside employees to develop high levels of job proficiency, analyzing maintenance performance and driving efficiency improvements
  • Provide positive reinforcement when employees demonstrate strong results and safe performance
  • Maintain department discipline and document unusual or unacceptable behaviors
  • Actively engage in the development and training of hourly team members
  • Apply mechanical and electrical knowledge to troubleshoot and maintain production systems, utilities, buildings, and grounds
  • Collaborate with facility management to improve employee safety, production quality, equipment reliability, and overall equipment effectiveness
  • Stay current with emerging industry regulations and codes relevant to systems design and operation
  • Ensure corporate policies and standards are followed in all daily activities
  • Lead and analyze preventive maintenance schedules, inspections, and repairs to minimize downtime
  • Maintain documentation and identify cost-saving opportunities

What You Bring

  • A high school diploma or GED required; a bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred
  • A demonstrated track record of developing and leading a team, preferably in the grain or agriculture industry
  • Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in an operations or manufacturing environment
  • Mechanical and electrical knowledge applicable to production systems and equipment
  • Experience with Job Hazard Analysis and safety compliance
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard business communication tools
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and train others

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This role involves working in an industrial facility, both indoors and outdoors year-round, at times in environments that may be dusty or noisy. With or without reasonable accommodation, you will need to:

  • Move throughout the facility, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing
  • Work in confined spaces and at heights when required
  • Lift up to 50 pounds as part of normal job duties and up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis
  • Wear required personal protective equipment, including a respirator
  • Support operations across different shifts as business needs require

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

The pay range for this position is expected to be between:

$72,900.00 - $131,800.00

Salaried Incentive Plan

The total compensation package for this position will also include annual bonus
