About the team/About the role:

The Assistant Store Manager provides support across store operations, team development, merchandising, stock management and customer engagement initiatives. In the absence of the Area Manager, the Assistant Store Manager assumes responsibility for the day-to-day leadership and operation of the store, ensuring operational standards, customer experience and team performance are maintained. The Assistant Store Manager also supports the Area Manager in achieving store KPIs, maintaining merchandising standards and fostering a positive, high-performing team environment.

Key responsibilities of the role:

• Provide support to the Area Manager in the day-to-day leadership of team members, ensuring the store operates effectively and delivers a high-quality customer experience.
• Create a positive team culture that reflects Cancer Council values and encourages collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
• Support recruitment activities including onboarding, training and ongoing development of team members in collaboration with the Area Manager.
• Ensure team members maintain the required product knowledge, customer service skills and operational understanding to confidently support customers and uphold brand standards.
• Support the Area Manager in ensuring effective stock management, including receiving deliveries, replenishment, stock transfers, stock accuracy and stocktakes.
• Assist with achieving store sales targets and key performance indicators through effective customer service, merchandising and operational practices.
• Provide leadership and operational support in the absence of the Area Manager, ensuring continuity of store operations and team performance.

About you:

Essential:

• Demonstrated experience managing or leading a retail store, team or customer-focused environment.
• Demonstrated ability to achieve sales targets and manage key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Ability to support the Area Manager in leading, coaching and developing team members and volunteers.
• Experience managing day-to-day retail operations, including opening/closing procedures, cash handling, stock management and compliance requirements.
• Strong commitment to delivering exceptional customer experiences and creating a customer-first culture.
• Experience managing customer feedback and resolving issues professionally. · Strong communication skills with the ability to provide feedback, manage performance and build trust within a team.
• Experience in stock processes, including receiving deliveries, replenishment, stock accuracy, transfers and stocktakes.
