Title: Assistant Sports Performance Coach

The Assistant Sports Performance Coach is responsible for the development, nutrition, and management of individual and group strength training programs for men and women student-athletes participating in the intercollegiate athletics program under the supervision of the Assistant AD for Peak Performance.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in any relevant field of study with minimum 1 year of experience with relevant work experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master's degree in any relevant field of study. At least 1-2 years of experience in sports performance at the intercollegiate level is strongly preferred. Strength and conditioning experience in a NCAA Division I level program is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Management and organizational skills are required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

Required Other Training, Certifications, or Licensing

Must be certified as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and/or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC).

Job Duties

  • Enables men and women student-athletes to perform to their physical potential in their sport through the development and management of strength, nutrition, and fitness training programs; develops programs by evaluating current physical conditioning, having a knowledge of the various sports and associated exercises, tailoring strength programs for specific needs, demonstrating proper performance of exercises, correcting mistakes; manages programs by monitoring progress and providing an assessment of development.
  • Mitigate the likelihood of sports-related injuries or the aggravation of such injuries during practice sessions and scheduled contests by being knowledgeable of the injuries sustained in the sport and proper mitigation methods, directing appropriate pre-training session and pre-contest preparations and warmups, and working with qualified sports medicine personnel or athletic trainers during all training sessions and contests.
  • Abides by and complies with NCAA and CAA rules, requirements, and policies of the University, and all guidelines and policies of the Athletics department and reports any concerns of compromise or violation of rules, standards, guidelines or policies to the Director of Athletics.
  • Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • The job requires working at all practices and events as assigned by the Assistant AD for Sports Performance, including some out-of-town events, which may occur at any time of day and on evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Contributes to the overall success of the University's intercollegiate athletics program by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
