Job Description

As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks a part-time Assistant Softball Coach at the Plymouth Campus to promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by supporting the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes.

The individual in this role must be able to assist the Head Softball Coach in fostering a positive and competitive athletic program while mentoring student-athletes in academics, athletics, leadership, and faith. The successful candidate should demonstrate strong coaching, communication, and leadership skills and be committed to creating an environment that reflects Marian University's Franciscan values. They must be able to serve as a positive role model, contribute to the overall success of the softball program, and support the university's mission of providing an excellent educational experience rooted in the Catholic Franciscan and liberal arts traditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
  • Ensure compliance with NJCAA recruiting rules and regulations
  • Assist with the supervision and organization of practices and games while complying with relevant NJCAA rules and regulations.
  • Maintain proper and appropriate discipline among students during athletic contests, practices and while on trips off campus
  • Acts in the absence of the head coach
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Marian University, Conference, and NJCAA policies and procedures
  • Promote the philosophy and values of the Athletic Program and Marian University Plymouth
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by head coach

Required Qualifications:

  • Preferred bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Prior coaching experience (high school, college, and/or studio/club)
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must display excellent customer and staff relation skills
  • Knowledge of and a commitment to the mission of Marian University
