Job Description

Key Functions and Expected Performance:

  • Leadership of Child Care Operations The Assistant Site Director supports day-to-day management of the child care center by implementing the established policies and procedures for child safety, care and education, standards and guidelines for classroom activities, pedagogy and curriculum, teacher training and development, and quality assurance standards, programs, and procedures. The Assistant Site Director fosters a work environment that demonstrates and values diversity, integrity, safety, collaboration and collegiality and positive relationships.
  • Lead by example and by implementing goals, objectives, policies and procedures, and leadership suggestions and directives for program quality improvement.
  • Implement protocols, programs and activities for quality control and improvement opportunities.
  • Support evaluative processes and classroom observations.
  • Support facilities to maintain a high standard and routinely conduct facility assessments.
  • Work with executive director, education director and site director to resolve HR and operational management issues.
  • Support staff to be properly trained and provide coaching feedback to ensure practice

aligns to policy.

  • Support onboarding in place that clearly communicates performance standards for

each position.

  • Pedagogy and Curriculum
  • The Assistant Site Director supports classroom activities, supply and materials resourcing, trainings, written content (Brightwheel, lesson plans, newsletters, portfolios) and practical application of curriculum align with pedagogical philosophies for the education of children in the VCFC.
  • The Assistant Site Director supports professional development structures to reinforce and support the understanding of pedagogical objectives.
  • This position maintains positive relationships with Peabody faculty and students to support mutually beneficial research in the field of Child Development.
  • Communication
  • Aligned to university communications training, the Assistant Site Director initiates proactive communications to enrolled families and VCFC staff to celebrate accomplishments, socialize program components and services, and receive feedback.
  • The Assistant Site Director ensures classroom communications (Brightwheel, lesson plans, monthly newsletter) comply with standards for professional written content and reflect branding formatting provided by the VU Communications team.
  • Strategic Planning
  • Working with the Executive Director, Education Director and the Site Director, the Assistant Site Director supports short, medium, and long-range goals and objectives for the child care center.

Supervisory Relationships:

This position has supervisory responsibility for the Administrative Assistant, Lead Teachers, and Associate Teachers. This position reports administratively to the VCFC Executive Director and functionally to the Site Director.

Education and Certifications

  • Must fully meet DHS/DOE child care licensing requirements for this role, including background check and ongoing training.
  • An AA in early childhood education, education or a related field AND 7+ years teaching experience in an early childhood organization AND 4+ years of experience in a leadership role with direct management of child care staff is required.
  • OR a BA/BS in early childhood education, education or a related field is required (M.A./M.S. strongly preferred) AND 3+ years of teaching experience in an early childhood organization.
