Essential Job Functions
Individuals in this position will provide administrative support for the Student Learning Center’s increased student needs during the academic year, including but not limited to:

  • Responding to email and phone communications accurately and professionally
  • Scheduling and updating SI sessions
  • Offering training workshops in line with SI accreditation rubrics
  • Creating engaging marketing and advertisements for the SI program
  • Processing attendance and performance alerts for student employees
  • Tracking student requirements met and reporting on SI sessions as needed
  • Coordinating and delivering assessment reports

This position will respond to student, faculty, staff, and public inquiries as needed relative to the Student Learning Center and keeping in mind procedures under FERPA guidelines. They also may review and/or add to student information in DegreeWorks, Banner and tracking system. Individuals will also access and analyze Banner and tracking system reports. Other administrative duties will include room reservations and management of phone and drop-in traffic as needed.

This position requires knowledge of University structure, services, programs, procedures, and practices. Employees in this position should have a strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in record keeping. The position requires daily use of various office technology and software applications. Individuals in this position will be able to interpret policies and address inquiries pertaining to student academic records.

This position provides administrative and communications support in a clear, concise, organized manner in multiple formats such as emails, letters, memos, reports, spreadsheets, for the Student Learning Center. Proofreads documents for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and basic formatting. Records and documents information accurately.

In addition, the position:

  • Uses our established data systems for managing student records.
  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of Academic Policies and Procedures in order to apply judgment to student requests.
  • Demonstrates knowledge regarding University resources to assist and refer students beyond our office.
  • Uses the calendaring system to assist students in making appointments.
  • Uses appropriate software applications, especially spreadsheets, to provide administrative support to the Student Learning Center..
  • Refers non-standard questions and problems to appropriate University office personnel.
  • Serves as a point of contact for questions, concerns, and logistics.

About the Student Learning Center:

The Student Learning Center ( SLC), aims to provide support for a broad population of students at Appalachian State University. Through the resources of Tutoring and Academic Success Coaching, the Student Learning Center matches the foundation of knowledge each student possesses, strengthens their ability and levels of confidence, and assists students in navigating learning in higher education. Through appointment-based (one-on-one) and drop-in tutoring sessions, University Tutorial Services, within the SLC, provides an array of tutoring opportunities for students to utilize and empower themselves.

Preferred Qualifications
Some post-secondary education plus 3-5 years of administrative experience. Ability to work effectively with a variety of personalities in a helpful, congenial, and professional manner. Demonstrated experience in detailed and accurate record keeping. Demonstrated experience using administrative software (specifically Excel, Google Sheets). Demonstrated use of University student information systems.

Work Schedule/Hours
Work schedule and hours are variable from 10-35 hrs per week based on workload. On average, 25 hours per week is estimated.

Hours will generally be focused in the afternoon/evening to address operational needs of the program. However, there may be occasional work from 8-5 Monday-Friday.

Months will be between August and May.

Fall: August 3, 2026 – December 11, 2026 (~18 weeks)
Spring: January 4, 2027 – May 14, 2027 (~18 weeks)

Hiring Range
$19.00-$21.00

Pay will be commensurate with applicant competencies, budget, equity and market considerations.
