Job Description

The City of Boston’s Election Department seeks individuals to serve as Listing Officers and Data Entry Clerks beginning in May and ending in August. Under the supervision and direction of the Election Department Staff, the Listing Officers will go door to door in neighborhoods throughout the City to complete the Annual Listing of Residents required by Massachusetts General Laws. In addition, participants will be performing data entry and clerical work related to Boston’s upcoming State and Municipal Elections. This work is crucial and necessary to protect voter rights and provide city officials with pertinent information to provide better municipal services.

Responsibilities

  • Talk with residents throughout various neighborhoods to gather residency information.
  • Update and input data as provided by the residents on their annual census form.
  • Sort and file Voter Registration Forms.
  • Assist with phone calls from the general public.
  • Considerable walking, as well as stair climbing.
  • Assist with tasks related to election preparation.
  • Participate in Voter Registration Outreach events in preparation for the upcoming elections and other duties assigned by Election supervisors.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications

  • Ability to prioritize assignments, organization, professionalism, strong verbal communication, work with minimal supervision when needed, and work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Applicants will be subject to CORI review.
  • Bilingual applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

Union/Salary Plan/Grade: EXO/$18 per hour
