Salary Range: $21.53 - $22.53 Hourly

The Whatcom Family YMCA is seeking a passionate and organized Assistant Recreation Coordinator to support Girls on the Run® and outdoor youth development programs.
This position plays an important role in creating a safe, supportive, and empowering environment where youth build confidence, develop leadership skills, and learn healthy habits while training for a celebratory 5K event.

What You'll Do
Youth Program Coordination
- Support the coordination of Girls on the Run® and YMCA recreation program sites
- Help launch and maintain new and existing program locations
- Maintain participant rosters, participation records, and scholarship data
- Assist with program promotion and outreach to schools and community partners
Volunteer Recruitment & Support
- Recruit, screen, train, and support volunteer coaches
- Ensure all volunteers complete background checks, required training, and CPR/First Aid certification
- Maintain positive relationships with volunteers and program sites
Program Operations & Safety
- Ensure programs provide safe and inclusive environments for youth
- Assist with identifying and maintaining safe running routes and program spaces
- Support curriculum implementation and youth development activities
Summer Camp Programming
- Assist with planning and implementing YMCA summer camp programs
- Support staffing coordination and program logistics
- Ensure adherence to YMCA safety and program standards
Community Outreach
- Represent the YMCA and Girls on the Run at community events and meetings
- Build partnerships with schools, families, and local organizations
Equipment & Materials Management
- Manage curriculum materials, snacks, apparel, and program equipment
- Maintain accurate inventory across program sites

QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:
- Passion for the Girls on the Run and YMCA missions and commitment to youth development and whole-person health.
- Strong understanding of empowerment, self-esteem, body image, and social-emotional learning.
- Previous experience working directly with youth.
- Excellent communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- CPR, First Aid, AED, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Child Abuse Prevention certifications (or ability to obtain prior to working with children).
- Ability to travel between program locations as needed.
Preferred

Qualifications:
- Ability to meet the criteria to be authorized as a driver for YMCA vehicles
- Experience with Girls on the Run or similar youth development programs.
- Nonprofit program management, fundraising, and volunteer leadership experience encouraged.
Schedule
- Part-time schedule is flexible depending on program season
- Some evening hours during program sessions
- Occasional weekend events
- Increased hours during summer camp season

- The employee frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
