Job Description

The Girl Scout mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Behind every Girl Scout and volunteer is a team of local staff ready to help them earn that next badge, embark on a camping adventure, or organize an impactful service project.

We are Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey (GSNNJ) serving girls in grades K-12 in Bergen, Morris, Passaic, Sussex and northern Warren counties. We bring the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to 19,000 girls and 10,200 adult members.

We are looking for an Assistant Ranger (seasonal) to join our team!

The Seasonal Assistant Ranger will assist with general maintenance, improvement, and custodial services in accordance with GSNNJ, GSUSA and ACA policies and standards.

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Work under the direction of the Ranger to ensure the readiness of the properties' building and grounds for troop camping, day camp, group use and council-sponsored programs.
  • Perform all maintenance and custodial services as directed by the Ranger and Lead Ranger to maintain properties to the required standards.
  • Ensure a quality customer service attitude is always demonstrated.
  • Helps foster and implement the council's policy to strive for a volunteer, employee and program participant population reflective of the area's religious, racial, ethnic, social and economic diversity.
  • As is the case with all our roles at the GS NNJ council, we are a small and passionate team of lifelong learners who jump in to support our staff across departments. As opportunities present, we expect our staff at all levels to participate in organizational initiatives and support our mission of serving girls. All staff are encouraged to promote and assist with council-wide programs, activities, public relations, and fund development endeavors.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Experience with assisting with park management and/or grounds maintenance.
  • Exceptional time management capability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable automobile and auto insurance with ability to maintain, drive and operate safely and efficiently various types of mowers, trucks, landscaping equipment and construction vehicles.
  • Basic mechanical trade knowledge of carpentry, plumbing and electric.
  • Ability to understand, remember and follow all unwritten instructions. Physical health and strength needed to perform various heavy tasks.
  • Ability to assist and prepare campgrounds.
  • Ability to lift physically heavy objects and to work continuously under varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to travel to GSNNJ properties as required.

The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
