Our Biodiversity Licensing and Programs team is currently seeking to appoint two Assistant Project Officer to support assessment of impacts to biodiversity and work across a diverse portfolio of projects that contribute to regulation of activities that may harm native species and habitat. This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive and organised professional to play a key role in supporting, licence application assessment, project planning, coordination, reporting and stakeholder engagement within the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).

As an Assistant Project Officer, you will provide project and operational support across a range of initiatives, including monitoring project milestones, maintaining project documentation, undertaking research and analysis, preparing reports and briefings, and coordinating meetings and governance activities. Working within a collaborative and supportive team environment, you will partner with internal stakeholders and contribute to projects that deliver meaningful environmental and community outcomes across NSW.

The team has been newly established to provide a consolidated approach to regulating biodiversity management and will be overseeing significant and exciting reforms. The role offers exposure to contemporary project management practices and the opportunity to develop your skills while supporting the successful delivery of priority programs.

About You

• Experience providing high-quality administrative, project or program support within a fast-paced environment, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• Demonstrated experience supporting the delivery of projects or programs, including monitoring progress, maintaining documentation and coordinating project activities.
• Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to gather information, identify key issues and contribute to project briefs, reports and recommendations.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and quality across project records, reporting and administrative processes.
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders and prepare clear, concise documentation.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach, with the ability to build productive working relationships and contribute positively to team outcomes.
• Understanding of contemporary project management principles and practices, with an ability to support project planning, implementation and reporting activities.
• Strong digital literacy and confidence using a range of business systems, technology and collaboration tools to support efficient project delivery.
• A proactive, adaptable and solutions-focused mindset, with the initiative to identify issues, recommend improvements and contribute to continuous improvement outcomes.
• Demonstrated professionalism, integrity and accountability, with a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes in line with public sector values.
