Job Description

Sargent Electric is a leading specialty contractor focused on electrical, instrumentation, wireless, utility, and low voltage systems. Founded in Pittsburgh in 1907, we operate from 8 locations across the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, delivering projects nationwide for our strategic customers.

We support the breadth of client needs — from routine 24/7 service and emergency restoration to their largest and most complex projects. Our proven safety record, technical depth, and longstanding client relationships have made us a partner of choice for Fortune 500 companies, leading general contractors, and EPC contractors.

We are seeking to hire two Assistant Project Managers in our Pittsburgh, PA office. This role will be on the project site in Shippingport, Pennsylvania.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This role provides the on-site assistant project management presence of the Bloom PIT Campus Power Station, a large cost-plus, open-book, self-perform IBEW electrical and medium-voltage project. Reporting to the Off-Site Project Manager, this position supports project leadership, manages Project Engineer and the Project Coordinator, and keeps the field supported with timely decisions, information, and documentation.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Request for Information (RFI) Ownership. Lead the Area RFI process through Project Engineer and Area Superintendent, track turnaround against contract timeframes, and ensure answers reach the field the same day.
  • Document Changes and Delays. Own the collection of daily reports, photos, labor records, equipment records, and other field backup for changes, delays, and directed work; support Potential Change Order (PCO) development and pricing.
  • Manage Constraints and Project Records. Maintain the Area constraint and issue log, field redlines, as-built markups, and the project change and delay log; escalate and close items with field supervision and the owner/GC team.
  • PCO Development and Pricing Support. Support the Off-Site Project Manager in developing and pricing PCOs and notices from the field backup for the area.
  • Verify Production and Materials. Verify production and manpower inputs before submission to Project Controls and monitor materials and deliveries against the installation sequence.
  • Coordinate Stakeholders and Meetings. Work with the owner and GC field teams daily, contribute to weekly coordination meeting agendas and notes, close assigned action items, and provide coverage for APM.
  • Constraint and Issue Management. Maintain the field constraint and issue log for Area; escalate and close items with the Superintendents and the owner/GC field team.
  • Redlines, As-Builts, and Change Log. Own field redlines and as-built markups (Project Engineers and Area Superintendents responsible for the markups) and maintain the project change and delay log.
  • Lead and Develop the Team. Set priorities, assign work, and develop the skills and judgment of Project Engineer and the Project Coordinator.
  • Owner and GC Field Interface. Work with the owner and GC field team daily and bring items to the Off-Site Project Manager and Senior Project Manager as needed.
  • Champion Safety Culture. Lead by example in upholding safety standards and support best practices across field and office environments, reinforcing expectations established by project leadership and the on-site Safety Manager.
  • Crave Learning. We value people who want to grow through hands-on experience, training, and mentorship. Be active in identifying and engaging in these opportunities.
  • Additional Responsibilities. Assume additional duties and responsibilities as delegated by Sargent Executive Management.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience in electrical construction project management.
  • Experience with ProjectSight, Vista, Bluebeam, Procore, Navisworks, Microsoft applications, and related construction management systems.
  • Working knowledge of open-book cost-plus contracts, RFI and submittal processes, daily reports, and change documentation preferred.
  • Excellent written communication skills and proficiency with computers, particularly Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with field supervision, engineers, vendors, the general contractor, and the owner.
  • The ability to work efficiently under tight timeframes, respond to requests promptly, collaborate as a team player, and manage multiple priorities.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 to 5 years of related experience in electrical, utility-scale, or industrial construction project management.
  • Experience with field coordination, change documentation, and document control.
  • Experience with self-perform union IBEW electrical work, medium-voltage, substation, fuel cell, or BESS projects preferred.

WHY JOIN SARGENT ELECTRIC?
