RESPEC seeks an Assistant Project Manager in our Land Development sector, located in Castroville, TX. The Assistant Project Manager position is intended for a broad land development and public works professional, with experience across site civil design, permitting, and project delivery.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

  • Assist in leading and managing land development projects from conception through construction for private and public-sector clients
  • Contribute to planning, design, and permitting for site and civil land development projects
  • Prepare and review exhibits, preliminary site layouts, civil site plans, technical memoranda, and reports
  • Apply hydrologic and hydraulic principles for site development, including stormwater analysis and drainage design
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies, municipalities, and internal technical teams
  • Assist in managing project scopes, schedules, and budgets to support successful delivery
  • Participate in client meetings and agency coordination meetings as required
  • Support construction-phase services, opinions of probable cost, and development support tasks
  • Foster strong internal collaboration and contribute to a positive team culture
  • Assist in managing individual land development projects or defined project components under the guidance of senior leadership
  • Assist in coordinating with internal design staff and consultants to deliver project milestones
  • Support proposal development, fee development, and client communications
  • Contribute to mentoring junior staff through technical guidance and assist in task oversight
  • Participate in relationship-based client support and limited business development activities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil or environmental engineering, or a related engineering discipline
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas, or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant land development engineering experience in the following areas:
    • Private-sector commercial, residential, and mixed-use land development
    • Preparing engineering reports, civil construction plans, and permitting submittals
    • Helping in coordinating small to mid-sized design teams and managing client interactions
    • Providing land development engineering services in Texas
    • Supporting proposal preparation and fee development
    • Stormwater analysis, site drainage, and civil design standards
  • A minimum of 1 year of project management experience
  • Proficiency with relevant software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and common hydrologic/hydraulic modeling tools
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record; position requires operating a company or personal vehicle during work hours for business-related travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Central Texas market experience, particularly the San Antonio and Austin regions
  • Familiarity with local and state permitting agencies and development regulations
  • Experience delivering private site development and public works projects, including street, drainage, and utility design, as stand-alone assignments or as part of multidisciplinary project teams
  • Strong stormwater and hydrologic/hydraulic expertise is preferred to support cross-discipline projects, but the role is not limited to stormwater-only practice

  • Thorough understanding of technology, software, and hardware
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software and applicable engineering design software

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times
  • Special hazards include exposure to development construction sites and equipment
  • Proper use of personnel protective equipment on project construction sites per RESPEC and/or client policies
  • Travel in personal vehicle from base office to project sites, client and/or agency offices and other RESPEC offices

Additional Information

Compensation: Salary depends on experience and expertise. Compensation includes a comprehensive fringe-benefits package. RESPEC is a 100 percent employee-owned company and employees are eligible for participation in the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) after a qualifying period.

This is a full-time, benefits eligible position.
