Job Description

Step into a high-impact role supporting the delivery of critical compliance and security initiatives within the River Class Destroyer program. As an Assistant Project Manager, you’ll be at the center of complex, high-stakes work connecting internal teams, Tier 1 suppliers, and key Government stakeholders (DND, PSPC) to keep projects moving forward with precision and purpose.

You’ll drive momentum by tracking milestones, managing risks, and keeping deliverables on target, while maintaining clear, data-driven reporting and schedules. From supporting IT Security Requirements to helping resolve issues and leading collaborative forums like the Security Working Group, you’ll play a visible role in keeping teams aligned and informed.

Working alongside the Senior Project Manager, you’ll help ensure compliance with contractual and information management standards while enabling smooth, transparent execution across the program. This is a fast-paced, collaborative role where your coordination skills and attention to detail will directly contribute to the success of a nationally significant defense program.

  • Assist and support in the running of Working Groups and Project Delivery Teams (PDT). Coordinate slide generation, action tracking and supporting meetings.
  • Ensure all PDT activities align with Irving Shipbuilding and group policies, procedures, and standards. Assist in the development and execution of governance frameworks.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of project/activity schedules. Monitor project/activity timelines and milestones and report any deviations to the Program Manager.
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of project/activity budgets. Track project/activity expenditures and ensure financial resources are used efficiently (EVM). Identify potential project/activity risks and assist in developing mitigation strategies. Monitor and report on risk status throughout the project/activity lifecycle.
  • Maintain effective communication with project/activity stakeholders. Prepare and distribute reports, meeting minutes, and other documentation as required.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of project/activity management processes and practices within Programs.
  • Manage various administrative requests which may include travel arrangements, preparation of presentations and metrics, change management, maintenance of SharePoint pages and other ad hoc requests.
  • Post-secondary degree, in business administration, engineering or related discipline an asset.
    • Additional years of experience may be acceptable in lieu of a degree.
    • Recognized PM designation (such as PMI) and understanding of EVM an asset.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in Project Management. Experience in defense/design/construction industries would be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in project management concepts, software and tools.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Highly competent with Business IT (Word, PowerPoint etc.).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
