Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting an Assistant Project Manager within the Campus Development Team of Property Services on a permanent, full-time contract.

Property Services delivers quality facilities and services for our students, staff and the wider community to enjoy, by building and maintaining a sustainable environment which enables and supports the University’s research, teaching and learning.

You will be a member of the Campus Development team and report to one of our Project Delivery Managers. You will be responsible for supporting the team with new building projects, major building refurbishments and smaller capital and infrastructure work programmes.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage and deliver minor projects under the guidance of the Project Delivery Manager and/or Project Manager.
  • Support the Project Delivery Manager and Project Manager with administrative duties around the planning and delivery of capital works projects.
  • Assist with cost controls for those projects which you support and/or under your management.
  • Assist in ensuring that programme and project communications are delivered in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships and communications with relevant internal and external stakeholders.

Key requirements:

  • Have relevant experience in a project administration role with a building and construction industry component.
  • Have an understanding of the project management lifecycle and methodologies, coupled with project management experience or relevant Prince 2 or PMI certification.
  • Be a good communicator, with a strong ability to be able to form strong relationships with our clients, stakeholders, contractors, consultants and the operational team.
  • Be able to quickly handle new or urgent demanding situations that come your way, be agile, flexible and pragmatic, with a high workload capacity in order to effectively meet the challenges inherent in the position. You will possess sound critical thinking and robust analysis skills.
