Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,399 graduates in 2024-2025, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 33% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Program Coordinator position will report to the AVP of Center for Workforce Solutions. Coordinator is to assist the Program Coordinator for Nursing and the Healthcare Program Coordinator with the planning, and coordination of training programs that prepare candidates to meet the workforce needs of local employers, particularly in the field of Nursing and Allied Health. Additionally, this position will help with the administrative task and day-to-day functioning of all Workforce Solutions healthcare related courses.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assisting with scheduling of all healthcare classes and inputting course information into the Workforce Enterprise System (WES).
  • Work with the Enrollment team to make sure students are enrolled in the appropriate class.
  • Maintain all grades for students completing training by inputting information into WES.
  • Responsible for overseeing the bookstore processing for students entering healthcare courses.
  • Responsible for providing customer service and follow up to students that are interested in training programs

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

  • Comprehensive knowledge of and demonstrated ability in managing processes, procedures projects and handle multiple competing tasks.
  • Assist in the support of all healthcare instructors for the program in the absence of the Coordinator.
  • Knowledge of training needs in the healthcare sector as it relates to the local workforce.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate, communicate and work effectively with faculty, staff, community, and agency leaders.
  • Ability to oversee processes and procedures for the overall management of the program in the coordinator’s stead.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish cooperative working relationships with a diverse group of individuals and organizations as it relates to healthcare.
  • Ability to make oral and written presentations and to assist with the development of effective training programs and materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and tasks in a highly complex work environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
