Job Description

The Baylor Interdisciplinary Core (BIC) seeks a full-time Assistant Professor of Sociology or Economics (or related social science discipline.)

  • Tenure-track
  • Teaching and research expectations will follow Baylor's Faculty Workload Policy, found here.
  • The preferred candidate will have expertise in Sociology or Economics who can address questions of markets, morality and economic systems with a primary-text curriculum, including but not limited to candidates with training in (1) economic sociology or anthropology (2) political economy, or (3) the history / theory of economics.
  • The preferred candidate will have a research agenda capable of engaging audiences and questions beyond their home discipline, consistent with BIC's interdisciplinary mission.
  • The preferred candidate is expected to contribute to interdisciplinary teaching across two of the following replacement core sequences in the BIC: World Cultures, Natural World, and Social World.

Additional expectations for the position include:

  • A willingness to collaborate in team teaching and mentoring undergraduate students.
  • Collegial involvement in program, college and university events and service.

Anticipated start date: August 2027

The Baylor Interdisciplinary Core is an integrated, team taught core curriculum program for Honors College students that emphasizes global and comparative perspective on primary texts in historical context.

  • Emphasis on undergraduate education.
  • Small seminar-style classes interspersed with large lectures.

Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent terminal degree in Sociology, Economics, or related discipline.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to research and publish in their disciplinary/sub-disciplinary area and participate in program, college, and university service at levels appropriate to time served and/or rank.

The anticipated start date is August 2027.
