Job Description

The College of Innovation & Technology (CIT) at the University of Michigan-Flint invites applications for one or more tenure-track positions as an Assistant Professor in the biology department, specifically in the field of Human Cadaver Anatomy. Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in Human Anatomy, Physiology, or closely-related field. Please note your area of expertise in your cover letter.

Candidates must be committed to excellence in teaching and have experience in human anatomy and in a cadaver laboratory. The successful candidate is expected to conduct research in Human Anatomy or the pedagogy thereof, and to collaborate with the College of Health Sciences for curriculum design and coordination. Opportunities further exist for program development and laboratory expansion. Candidates with an interdisciplinary focus in fields including, but not limited to, musculoskeletal tissue injury and regeneration, movement disorders, cancer biology, health and/or rehabilitation are encouraged to apply.

The Biology Department offers undergraduate degrees in Biology, Human Biology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, and Wildlife Biology, as well as an M.S. in Biology. The department also collaborates closely with programs in the College of Health Science and the School of Nursing at UM-Flint. Faculty in our programs provide engaged instruction and mentorship to students through a combination of coursework and faculty research. Faculty are provided with research space, access to a cadaver lab and vivarium, plus a variety of chemical and biological science instrumentation such as LC-MS, Bruker 400 MHz NMR, HPLC, Spectroscopic Instrumentation (UV-vis, Fluorimeter, FTIR), standard and real-time PCR, cell culture facilities, cell imaging and microscopy instrumentation, and more.

The College of Innovation & Technology is growing and in the midst of a significant faculty hiring initiative across three Divisions. An aim of the college is to continue to develop strong ties with regional industries leading to applied research and experiential learning opportunities. Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in anatomy, physiology, or a closely-related field by the appointment date.

They must demonstrate:

  • A record of teaching excellence, including the potential to teach in face-to-face, online, and experiential learning settings.
  • A record of research and scholarly publications, including the potential for an externally-funded research program
  • The ability to further the goals of the department, college, and university through the design and implementation of courses and/or programs
  • The ability to generate and mentor undergraduate student research project

Modes of Work

Hybrid:

The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.
