The PI is a pediatric infectious diseases physician and physician-scientist with a background in basic, translational, or clinical health research spanning pediatric infectious diseases and global health. The Section of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Global Health at Yale has a long history of federal and non-federal research funding and offers strong institutional support to help new faculty researchers build independent research programs. Section faculty maintain active research programs spanning molecular epidemiology and pathogenesis of respiratory and vector-borne viral infections, viral oncogenesis, helminth and tropical disease immunology, cystic fibrosis-associated pulmonary infection, vaccine epidemiology and clinical trials, and transplant and immunocompromised host infectious diseases. The section is affiliated with the Yale Institute for Global Health, the Center for Infection and Immunity, and the Center for Global Infectious Disease Research, and collaborates with epidemiologists, computational biologists, and global health researchers domestically and at international partner sites. The role will include bench work including tissue culture and tissue processing, performance of molecular assays, and data analysis. The career pathway focuses initially on development or utilization of research materials, techniques, or technologies, research method/design development, research staff and trainee training and supervision, and management/training for major laboratory equipment. In time, there is opportunity for major roles in project direction, leading/participating in scholarly products, and supporting the preparation of grant applications.
The ideal candidate will possess strong experience and knowledge in the areas of cellular and molecular biology and have the ability to perform bioinformatics/systems biology analysis. Eagerness to learn new cutting edge techniques is required. Evidence for clinical perspective is preferred but not required. However, a sense of purpose and dedication toward the goal of clinical application of research discovery is required.
