
As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks qualified applicants to promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by teaching Systematic Theology. The position is a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor of theology.
The position requires expertise in Systematic Theology as well as some background in Moral Theology. Candidates should be able to teach from the richness of the Catholic tradition while also attending to the broad and ecumenical needs of general education, supporting interdisciplinary initiatives, and contributing to ministry programs. A special priority will be collaboration with the Office of Mission and Ministry for the promotion of the San Damiano Scholars program. This position will report to the chair of the theology department and will operate on a 9-month, full-time appointment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Actively engages the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling our Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies
Teaches 18-24 credits per academic year
Contribution to a wide and ecumenical array of teaching outlets, including the general education curriculum, collaboration with STEM fields, undergraduate major curriculum, and undergraduate seminary
Mentor students through advising, research, and internship opportunities
Sharing in the ongoing development and implementation of projects within the school, especially our growing engagement of our San Damiano Scholars’ program and other university initiatives, particularly in collaboration with the Office of Mission and Ministry.
Engage in research, scholarship, and other professional activities
Actively participate in the life of the campus and university service, including participation in shared governance and co-curricular programs
Contribute to a campus culture committed to professionalism, collegiality, and confidentiality
Other duties as assigned
Requirements include:
Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of Marian University
Ph.D. in theology or equivalent degree
Evidence of teaching excellence in higher education
Potential for ongoing research, publication, and activity in professional associations
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Awareness of Franciscan Spirituality preferred
Spanish speaking preferred
