The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is seeking a 9-month, tenure-earning, Assistant Professor of Statistics. This position will report to Dr. Richard Patterson, Mathematics and Statistics Department Chair. This position is primarily engaged in teaching, research and service. Position responsibilities include a 2/2 teaching load.
Additional duties will include:
i) maintaining an active research agenda with potential to produce sponsored research, and
ii) contribute to in service opportunities within the department and the university at large.

About the Department: As one of the largest departments at UNF, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics has over thirty faculty members and offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs of study. Our students are able to pursue the following degrees: B. S. in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Sciences, Discrete Analysis and a B.A. in Mathematics, Statistics, and Applied Mathematics. In addition, the Department offers a graduate degree of Master of Science in Mathematical Sciences with both Mathematics and Statistics tracks. In recent years, UNF has transitioned to an R2 institution with an increasing focus on research while maintaining excellence in teaching. Faculty at UNF are on flexible teaching loads, typically teaching between four to six courses per year, with newly hired faculty on a reduced load of two courses per semester for the first three years. Continued reduced teaching loads may be offered to faculty demonstrating significant accomplishments aligned with the university’s strategic plan ( https://www.unf.edu/strategic-plan/index.html). Startup funds may be available and negotiable.
Required Qualifications: At minimum, the candidate must have a Ph.D. in Statistics (or recognized terminal degree) from an acceptable accredited institution in the field of specialization or closely related discipline which must be conferred by August 1, 2026. Candidates will be expected to provide a demonstration of teaching effectiveness, present current research, and articulate excellence in future scholarly agenda.
