Assistant Professor of Russian, Middlebury College, MIDDLEBURY, VT -- The Russian Department invites applicants for a full-time tenure-track position in Russian beginning fall 2027. Research specialization is open. Applicants should demonstrate an ability to teach Russian literature and culture, native or near-native fluency in Russian and English, and interest and experience in teaching language at the undergraduate level. The position entails teaching Russian at all levels and courses in English on Russian culture and literature.

As part of a full teaching load, the candidate will also regularly contribute to Middlebury’s First Year Seminar Program and Winter Term course offerings. All faculty at Middlebury are also expected to contribute to service to the College including, but not limited to, committee membership and serving as Director or Chair of a Program or Department when asked.

The letter should focus on the candidate’s pedagogical approach to teaching, their prior experience teaching Russian to non-native speakers at the college level, content courses in English that the candidate would be interested to teach, and the candidate’s research portfolio and interests.

In addition, the application must include (i) an up to date CV, (ii) a syllabus for a Russian language course that the candidate previously taught at the first or second year level, (iii) at least one syllabus of a content course in English that the candidate either previously taught or would like to teach in the future, (iv) a 20-25 page sample of scholarly writing, and (v) three confidential letters of recommendation, at least two of which must speak to teaching ability.
