Job Description

Hampden-Sydney College, a private liberal arts college for men, invites applications for a tenure-track appointment beginning fall of 2024. The department is seeking candidates with expertise in behavioral neuroscience. Candidates should have their Ph.D. by the time of their appointment and be prepared to teach courses that support both the psychology major and neuroscience minor. The course load for this position is between six and seven per year, and includes introductory psychology courses, research methods/laboratory courses, and upper-level specialty courses Preferred candidates will be dedicated to undergraduate teaching and advising, prepared to involve students in research, and interested in building interdisciplinary partnerships.

Hampden-Sydney College is a selective liberal arts institution enrolling approximately 1000 students with a student-faculty ratio of approximately 10:1. The College recently opened the Pauley Science Center, where faculty have access to a behavioral neuroscience suite with a vivarium and dedicated rooms for mammal and non-mammal husbandry, surgery, histology, and behavioral testing.

Founded in 1775, Hampden-Sydney College is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in the United States. Our beautiful 1300-acre campus is less than 7 miles from downtown Farmville, home to Longwood University and the Moton Museum, which is listed on the U.S. Civil Rights Trail. The campus is located 65 miles west of Richmond, 50 miles east of Lynchburg, and 75 miles south of Charlottesville, providing abundant cultural, recreational and artistic resources.
