Job Description

The Department of Politics at Hampden-Sydney College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in August 2027. We seek a dynamic and engaging teacher-scholar who specializes in Asian Politics and is passionate about undergraduate education in a liberal arts setting.

The successful candidate should be able to teach at least one course in Asian Politics while contributing to the broader curriculum in international relations and comparative politics. Faculty teach in a 6-6-7 course rotation with six courses per year for two years and seven courses in the third year.

Hampden-Sydney College values the teacher-scholar model and actively supports faculty in pursuing ongoing research and scholarly engagement alongside excellent undergraduate teaching. We seek candidates with a record of effective classroom teaching, a commitment to scholarly productivity, and a spirit for collaborative professional service to the Department and the broader College community.

A Ph.D. in political science or a related field is required by the time of appointment. ABD candidates who are close to completion of their degree will be considered.

The position is housed in the Department of Politics and contributes to interdisciplinary programs, including the Asian Studies minor and Core Cultures Program. Experience or interest in experiential learning and study abroad programming is especially welcome.
