The English Department at Case Western Reserve University looks to appoint an Assistant Professor on the tenure track in Nineteenth-Century British Literature, specializing in fiction, beginning July 1, 2027. Successful applicants should present a strong record of research and scholarship; a record of excellent teaching; and a commitment to departmental and institutional service. In addition to courses in their area of specialization, they will teach the survey (required of majors) of British Literature since 1800; Victorian, and possibly romantic, major authors courses; and ENGL 372: Studies in the Novel (on the history and formal development of the novel). Teaching ability in the history of criticism is desirable, though ancillary. The teaching load is 2 courses a semester.

The annual starting base salary range for this position is from $85,000 to $91,000. CWRU considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
