Job Description

Assistant Professor of Music: Choral Conductor and Music Education

The Department of Music at Knox College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor of Music beginning September 1, 2023. The successful candidate will demonstrate a visionary and inclusive approach to leading a liberal-arts college choral program, excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentorship, and dedication to service and teaching within a diverse community.

Knox is a diverse college with over 35% of the student body identifying as American students of color and an additional 15% international students. Experience working with diverse populations of students and a commitment to teach successfully in a multicultural environment are expected.

The teaching load for this position will be equally split between choral ensemble direction and music coursework. In addition to conducting the Knox College Choir and Chamber Singers, the successful candidate will have the equivalent of a half time teaching load, typically three credits per year, primarily in conducting and music education. Teaching responsibilities may also include core musicianship and advanced seminars in the successful candidate’s areas of expertise, dependent upon candidate interest and departmental needs at the time.

All faculty are expected to have an active scholarly agenda, broadly defined, that can encompass research, creative, and service projects according to their interests and areas of specialization. The Music Department is particularly interested in candidates who will engage with Knox students and the broader Galesburg community through these projects. The successful candidate will have access to professional development resources including conference travel and research funds.

Pay is commensurate with entry-level faculty positions at the College. Additional information can be found on our Human Resources webpage at https://www.knox.edu/offices/human-resources/employee-benefits-and-forms
