Job Description

Emory University’s Oxford College invites applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor of English in Oral Communication to begin fall 2027.

The successful candidate will be able to expand our writing and continuing communications program by teaching courses in first-year writing, as well as in public speaking, oratory, multimedia communication, or a related area. The teaching load is three courses per semester, including multiple sections of first-year writing annually, and a Discovery Seminar every other academic year. The candidate will also maintain an active research agenda resulting in peer-reviewed publications. Additional duties include service to our Writing and Communication Program, General Education Program, and beyond, developing the area of oral communication across our campus.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in English, Communication Studies, Rhetoric and Communication, or related field by time of appointment.
• Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching oral communication and first-year writing.
• Demonstrated agenda of research and peer-reviewed publication.
• Experience working with students from different backgrounds and learning styles and collaborating with colleagues across different perspectives and disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Primary specializations in oral communication and first-year writing.
• Secondary interests in public speaking, oratory, writing/communication centers, multimedia communication, community-engaged learning, oral history, performance studies, or media studies.
• Experience advising and/or mentoring undergraduates.
• Experience supporting faculty who wish to incorporate speaking components into their courses.
• Experience supporting students in speaking assignments across the curriculum.
• Demonstrated potential to support and expand our writing and communications program in the area of oral communication is especially desirable.
