Responsibilities:
The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at
Belmont University invites applications for the position of tenure-track
Assistant Professor of English in British or World Literature, pre-1800. The
appointment will begin on August 1, 2027.
Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate
composition and undergraduate and graduate literature courses. Additional
responsibilities include academic advising, student mentoring, scholarly
activity, and college and university service, and the duties listed
below:
Because all Belmont undergraduates complete an innovative
general education program with significant interdisciplinary components, the
University particularly seeks applicants who demonstrate an interest in and
ability to collaborate on course design and teach interdisciplinary and topical
courses in the program.

During the application process, applicants will be asked
to submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae or resume, and a one-page,
300–400-word essay describing how their core beliefs and practices inform their
support for Belmont’s Christ-centered mission and shape their approaches to
teaching, research, and service.

Required EducationA Ph.D. in English is required. Candidates who are ABD in the required discipline will be considered.
Required ExperienceCandidates should demonstrate a commitment to innovative teaching and a strong record of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level in higher education. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in pre-1800 British and/or World Literature. We are also interested in the following specializations: linguistics; Latino/Hispanic literature; Asian literature; medical or digital humanities. In addition to teaching undergraduate first- and third-year composition courses, teaching responsibilities will include: British or World Literature surveys; Advanced Studies and graduate courses; courses in Belmont’s General Education program.
