Job Description

The Criminology and Criminal Justice Program at the University of Michigan-Dearborn invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice. Candidates should possess a PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related field. Our program is committed to providing students with a holistic understanding of crime and crime control with a commitment to the intersections of social justice with the legal system. We encourage applications from persons with experience conducting research serving particularly vulnerable, historically excluded, and underserved populations. We also encourage applications from persons with a demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity in the justice system.

Candidates will be expected to teach required and elective courses in the undergraduate and graduate Criminology and Criminal Justice curriculum. The preferred candidate will have teaching strengths that support courses in areas such as: race, crime, and justice; criminal justice systems; critical police studies; victimization; juvenile justice; mass incarceration; courts and law; white collar and state/corporate crime; and/or quantitative methods. Candidates will also be encouraged to develop new courses as needed that align with their substantive area of expertise. A proven ability to develop curricula and teach both in person and online is strongly preferred.

Candidates should have substantive scholarly expertise in one or more defined Criminology and Criminal Justice areas in which they would have the potential to develop independent and collaborative research efforts. We seek a colleague with an active research program and track record of published scholarship, as well as an ability to draw on this research to inform their teaching and service. Candidates engaged in multidisciplinary research or community-based research collaborations are welcomed. We also value candidates committed to research employing traditional and non-traditional methods.

The campus is located on 200 acres of the original Henry Ford Estate. Dearborn is centrally located within one of America's largest business regions. The geographically diverse area provides faculty with a variety of urban, suburban, and rural areas within a reasonable commute, including Detroit, Detroit suburbs, and Ann Arbor.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Justice Studies, Law and Society or a related field. Persons who are ABD and will complete their doctoral degree by August 15, 2022 are eligible to apply.
