Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences at Chapman University invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Fall 2027. Area of expertise is open, with preference given to candidates with a strong research background and potential in acquired or developmental language disorders.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) is located on the Rinker Health Science campus in Irvine, CA. This campus is designed to foster an inter-professional educational environment and to use cutting edge technology in teaching and practice. The campus features state of the art facilities, including a human cadaver anatomy laboratory, advanced learning center with innovative technology, Grand Rounds auditorium with 3D projection capabilities, multi-sized classrooms, a medical library, and collaborative work centers. The campus is home to several accredited graduate health science professional programs, including Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Master of Science Physician Assistant Studies, and Doctor of Pharmacy. The Rinker campus is strategically located near healthcare institutions, medical device manufacturers, and biopharmaceutical companies.

The Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) department is seeking a colleague who is dynamic and collaborative; a strong investigator who will provide our students with state-of-the-art academic instruction and help us build our research profile. As a Master of Science graduate degree program, the CSD department is accredited by the Council of Academic Accreditation (CAA) and the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). The CSD department is associated with numerous school districts, private practices, and medical centers that provide services to individuals with communication disorders across the lifespan. Responsibilities

• Conduct and disseminate research in their area of expertise.
• Seek and obtain extramural funding to support research.
• Teach primarily in academic area of expertise and contribute to teaching Capstone course, for which students complete a research project in their graduating year.
• Be involved in faculty governance.
• Provide regular service expected from a faculty member.

Tenure-track faculty are expected to develop and maintain an active research agenda for future tenure consideration and are evaluated on their research/scholarly activity, teaching, and service.

Qualifications

Required

• Doctorate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a broadly related field.
• Clinical Certification as a Speech-Language Pathologist, by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
• Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, and mentoring skills.
• Strong research portfolio at a junior level, on an upward trajectory.
• Able to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.
• Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology (e.g., word processing, e-mail, database, web-based applications) or proven ability to learn these skills.
• Experience supporting students with disabilities and diverse learning needs in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Desired

• Prior college-level teaching experience in the field of communication sciences and disorders.
• Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of California.

The position will begin in Fall 2027. Salary and start-up packages are competitive and will be based on experience, rank, and funding status. Teaching load is consistent with R2 status and will accommodate 50% time devoted to research activities.

Successful completion of a background check is required for the final candidate. The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $156,000. Salary is competitive and will be commensurate with experience. This position is contingent on final budget approval.
