The Biology Department at Hamilton College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Evolutionary Ecology at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2027. The successful candidate will teach five course credits per year, including: (1) an upper-level course in evolutionary biology with a lab (together counting as two teaching credits), (2) an upper-level elective in their specialty (e.g., a seminar), (3) supervising senior thesis research, and (4) rotating between teaching a uniquely themed lecture section of introductory biology and a 200-level lecture in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. An ongoing research program involving undergraduates is expected. The candidate’s teaching and research program will contribute to our college's interdisciplinary program in Environmental Studies. Research support includes start-up funds, a dedicated research laboratory, annual conference travel, a generous sabbatical leave program, and use of the extensive research facilities within the Taylor Science Center.

The Biology Department faculty is a community of active teacher-scholars dedicated to equipping students with skills for lifelong learning in the biological sciences and advancing our understanding of the natural world through original research. Candidates with ABD will be considered, although candidates with a Ph.D. and post-doctoral experience are preferred. The teaching load for this position is four courses during the first year and five courses thereafter. The expected 9-month base salary range for this position is $94,500 to $100,360.
