Job Description

New York University’s Department of Biology invites applications for one tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin September 1, 2027, pending administrative and budgetary approval. This search is part of NYU’s Artificial Intelligence Initiative. The successful candidate will establish an independent computational research program in the Department of Biology, complemented by opportunities for collaboration with experimental laboratories.

We seek candidates working at the interface of artificial intelligence and biology. We welcome researchers developing new AI and machine learning methods motivated by biological problems, as well as those applying these approaches to advance fundamental biological understanding. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, sequence-to-function modeling, analysis of biological imaging data, generative design of biological molecules and systems, and large-scale modeling and analysis of high-dimensional genomic data. We welcome applications across the full breadth of AI-enabled computational biology, including areas beyond those listed above.

The Department of Biology offers a collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment. The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with faculty across the Department, develop new directions that complement its research strengths, and engage with NYU’s broader AI research community. Candidates are expected to develop an externally funded research program and to participate in the teaching mission of the Department. Candidates will supervise scholarly activities of undergraduate and graduate students and participate in administrative activities in the Department of Biology.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $110,000-$130,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
