Position: Assistant Professor of Biology

Department: Faculty of Science

The Department of Faculty of Science at University of the Fraser Valley invites applications for position of Assistant Professor. Start date is January 2019. We seek a broadly trained Plant Cell Biologist with expertise in one or more of the following areas: plant physiology, cellular physiology, and signal transduction mechanisms. Experience with greenhouse management is a plus.

Duties include:

  • Actively pursuing extramurally funded scientific research in an area of the candidate's expertise.
  • Mentoring undergraduate and graduate research students.
  • Teaching BSC 322, Principles of Cell Biology, Introductory Biology, and upper-level/graduate offerings.
  • Developing new course materials, including syllabi, lecture presentations and assessment tools.
  • Contributing to the learning of undergraduate and graduate students, through class teaching, small group discussions and one-on-one sessions with individual students.
  • Serving on departmental, college and/or university committees.
  • The department seeks candidates who can contribute to the University's general education curriculum with its emphasis on a common First-Year Seminar and core curriculum courses that enhance students; critical thinking, and to the College's interdisciplinary programs of study.

Required Qualifications

  • The successful candidate must have a PhD or equivalent in Biology or closely-related discipline, a record of: research publications, active pursuit of external research funding and excellent teaching and communication skills.
  • Postdoctoral research, experience mentoring research students, and demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching.
  • Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.
