Job Description

St. Mary’s College of Maryland (SMCM) is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Anthropology with a focus in Biological Anthropology whose work will also contribute to the College’s new Public Health major. Candidates who value the scholar–teacher model of the liberal arts are encouraged to apply.

Teaching responsibilities entail three classes per semester for a total of six per year, including a four-field “Introduction to Anthropology,” “Biological Anthropology,” and public health courses, including “Introduction to Public Health” and “Human Anatomy for Public Health.” Topics courses in the candidate’s areas of expertise are welcome. We especially seek candidates whose elective courses can support interest in global health and wellness, medical anthropology, or the application of anthropology to public health.

In addition to an active research agenda, competitive candidates should be able to demonstrate interest in and ability to offer hands-on student research opportunities and learning experiences that take advantage of our location. We especially value course-based research opportunities and other high-impact practices you can bring to SMCM.

The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $80,000, depending on qualifications and experience. When extending an offer of employment, the College considers factors including, but not limited to, education and training, work experience, internal peer equity, and organizational considerations. This salary range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of posting.
