Job Description

The Department of Music at The College of Wooster invites applications for a visiting position in Applied Voice at the level of Assistant Professor, beginning in August 2020. We are looking for a broadly trained specialist in applied voice. Applicants should hold a Doctorate in Voice or Vocal Pedagogy before start date; ABD considered.

We are especially interested in hiring faculty who can contribute to the intellectual vibrancy and diversity of the academic community through their teaching, research, and service. The College of Wooster enrolls a diverse student body (21% domestic students of color and 15% international students); all applicants are expected to discuss their experience working with diverse student populations.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should have a demonstrated ability to teach courses and advise research projects in applied voice, vocal performance, class voice, and vocal pedagogy and diction. They will also direct the Opera & Lyric Theatre Workshop and maintain a record of strong scholarly/artistic activity. They will teach the equivalent of 6 courses, including introductory and advanced courses in the Music department, credited supervision of independent thesis projects as part of the College’s Independent Study program, and participate in teaching courses for non-majors. In addition, we are interested in candidates whose research and teaching can connect with one or more interdisciplinary programs at The College of Wooster such as Africana Studies, Global & International Studies, East Asian Studies, South Asian Studies, Middle Eastern and North African Studies, Urban Studies, or Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
