Job Description

The School of Educational Studies (SES) at the University of Washington Bothell invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in STEM/STEAM education. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a nine-month, tenure track appointment beginning September 16, 2027.

The base salary range for this position will be $10,000–$10,555 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

The successful candidate is a scholar-practitioner committed to research, teaching, and service in science/STEM/STEAM education, with a strong emphasis in approaching science education through the lenses of equity and educational justice and with a deep understanding of anticolonial and anti-racist pedagogy. The successful candidate will also have scholarly expertise in K-12 science curriculum, content, and practices that enable them to teach both science methods and science academic breadth courses offered as part of the Elementary Education teacher certification program.

The successful candidate will lead curriculum development and revision for science/STEM/STEAM education and collaborate with colleagues to create, revise, and support ongoing and future SES programs, and demonstrate a proven ability to create equitable and inclusive learning environments that honor students' whole selves including their cultural identities, abilities, and diverse lived experiences. Additional research or teaching expertise in areas such as SPED, ESOL, or leadership integration with science education would be welcome. The successful candidate will build and sustain a productive scholarly trajectory of active publications and presentations in the field of science education that can lead toward promotion and tenure. The potential for community engaged partnership and public scholarship, as well as potential success or interest in seeking sponsored research is desirable.

Additional teaching and mentoring opportunities may make themselves available in our grad programs. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in innovative and effective pedagogy (face-to-face as well as hybrid platforms) and will be committed to working with diverse student and community populations. All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service.

Qualifications

Applicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in science/STEM/STEAM Education from an accredited institution (ABD candidates may be considered with evidence of degree completion prior to appointment).
  • 2+ years K-12 science teaching experience
