The Institute of Fine Arts of New York University seeks applicants at the rank of Assistant Professor for a tenure-track position in the art and visual cultures of the Transnational Americas from 1800 to the present. Applications are invited from scholars committed to expansive, comparative, and methodologically innovative approaches to the American hemisphere. We welcome candidates working on any area of visual and material culture, including those who study the artistic practices and visual worlds of diasporic communities from Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean, as well as those whose work crosses national or regional boundaries or traces connections with Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Pacific and Atlantic worlds. Candidates with curatorial experience or interest are encouraged to apply.
The Institute of Fine Arts is a graduate educational institution serving MA and PhD students in art and architectural history, archaeology, and fine art conservation. The teaching load is two courses per semester, including graduate seminars and lectures, with occasional courses in NYU's undergraduate programs. Mentoring and advising MA and PhD students is a significant component of this position.
In compliance with New York City's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this Assistant Professor, tenure-track position is $90,000-$140,000 per annum, plus a travel and research stipend and full benefits.

Applicants must hold a PhD in art history or a related field by September 1, 2027, the anticipated start date of the appointment. Candidates should demonstrate scholarly accomplishment or promise, methodological ambition, and a strong commitment to teaching and advising.
