JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE:
Lane College is seeking an assistant professor in Mass Communication, Digital Media & Productionfor its Mass Media Studies program, focusing on teaching mass communication with an emphasis ondigital skills. The ideal candidate will have expertise in video, broadcast, and multiplatform production. The position is set to begin in August 2026 and will report to the Communication andMedia Studies Department Chair. The role invites applications from individuals with industryexperience and those who have taught a variety of topics within multimedia communication,particularly in broadcast and video production, as well as basic visual presentation and reporting. Theresponsibilities of the instructor include teaching courses related to broadcast reporting and mediaproduction, instructing students on the operation of equipment used in television and multimedia production, and staying updated on current technologies across media platforms. The instructor willalso be responsible for teaching major courses in various formats, advising Communication and Media Studies majors, and assisting in student recruitment and retention efforts.
Additionally, the instructor will serve on division and college committees, meet established deadlines, andperform other duties as assigned by the department chair.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach courses in the Communication and Media Studies program, including broadcast reporting and media production-related courses.
- Instruct students in the operation of equipment used in television and multimedia production,including cameras, editing software, and other relevant tools in classroom or mentorship settings.
- Remain abreast of current and rapidly changing technology applications across media platforms.
- Teach major courses in traditional, blended, and online formats.
- Advise Communication and Media Studies majors (including evaluating student transfer credit when the student initially enrolls at the college).
- Help recruit and retain students.
- Serve on division and college committees.
- Help facilitate senior projects, internships, etc.
- Meet established deadlines.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.

QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:
- A terminal degree in Mass Communications, Mass Media Studies, or a related field is stronglypreferred. A master's degree with substantial industry experience is suitable.
- Successful college teaching experience in one of the above disciplines.
- Possess stellar customer service skills.
- Be a team player.
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Successful experience using and incorporating technology in and out of the classroom.
- Demonstrated experience or ability to effectively work with a wide range of individuals and constituents in a diverse collegiate community.
- Media industry experience and/or experience teaching topics within the video production,multimedia and digital communication fields, including basic media writing, visual and other digital skills.
- Demonstration of familiarity with industry-standard equipment, tools and software in television and multimedia production, specifically Final Cut, Da Vinci, and Adobe Creative Cloud (especially Premier, lnDesign and Photoshop).
- Familiarity with Associated Press style.
- Familiarity with newsroom structures and demands, including deadlines and production standards.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty and administration to advance the program
