The University of Rochester’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering seeks to hire outstanding early career candidates in AI circuits and systems over the next three years. Appointment will be at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor. We seek outstanding candidates in three areas:
Computer architecture for AI hardware. Accelerator architecture, hardware-software co-design, memory systems, and domain-specific architectures.
Circuit design for AI hardware. Energy-efficient inference and training circuits, mixed-signal and in-memory computing, evolving beyond-CMOS technologies, and heterogeneous integration and advanced packaging.
Edge AI and robotics. Embedded and real-time AI systems, autonomous systems, and human-AI interaction, with an emphasis on hardware-aware design.
Successful candidates will have an anticipated start date between 2027 and 2029. The start date is negotiable.
The University of Rochester is a distinguished research university, and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering currently supports over $23M in active research grants, with an average research expenditure per research active faculty member of over $500K per year. The department is home to more than 65 full-time PhD students and a graduate program with over 20 MS students in residence at any given time, along with a BS program in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Successful candidates will have access to design, fabrication, characterization, and test infrastructure for integrated circuits and systems, high-performance computing resources, and collaboration opportunities through the Goergen Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and the Laboratory for Laser Energetics. Faculty also engage with the growing microelectronics corridor in upstate New York.

Candidates should hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in electrical and computer engineering, computer science, or a related field by the time their faculty appointment begins, and should have considerable research experience.

The referenced pay range represents the full base range of pay for this job. Individual salaries will be determined within the job’s salary range and established based on market data, experience and expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
