The Computer Science (CS) Department in the Yale School of Engineering & Applied Science (SEAS) invites applications for one tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). The anticipated start date is July 1, 2027. Applicants are expected to excel in HCI research and to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level within the Computer Science curriculum.
In support of the SEAS Strategic Vision, we are particularly interested in candidates whose research intersects with Human-AI Interaction. We seek scholars who investigate the symbiotic relationship between humans and intelligent systems. Examples (in no particular order) include scholars who advance human-AI collaboration or teaming, develop novel interfaces and interaction paradigms for AI agents, engineer AI-driven pedagogical tools to enhance learning outcomes, create AI-powered interfaces for end-user programming of complex computing systems, design AI-powered assistive interfaces, or build creative interfaces that leverage AI. Successful candidates are expected to have a strong record of publication in premier HCI venues such as CHI, CSCW, UIST, or IUI.
Yale provides many opportunities for research collaborations, offering an intellectual environment in which Human-Computer Interaction can engage not only with Computer Science and Engineering, but with the extraordinary breadth of scholarship and creative practice across the university.
Yale faculty regularly have the opportunity to teach excellent students, both graduate and undergraduate. An overview of academic programs offered by the CS department can be found on the department’s website: http://cpsc.yale.edu/.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree at the time of hire in Computer Science or a related discipline.
Applicants are asked to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a teaching statement, a research statement, and three confidential letters of recommendation through Interfolio. A helpful teaching statement should describe the candidate’s teaching experience and explain how they could contribute to the curriculum at Yale. The research statement should include a research vision and, if relevant, potential collaborations across Yale. To ensure full consideration, please submit all materials by December 15, 2026. Review of applications will begin after December 16, 2026, and will continue until the position is filled. Contact Alicia Vignola (alicia.vignola@yale.edu) with any questions regarding the application.
