of Job Duties:

The College of Health Professions at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) seeks a board-certified Genetic Counselor to join its academic faculty. This is a 12-month, full-time faculty position located in Little Rock, Arkansas.

This role includes responsibilities in didactic and/or clinical instruction, student mentorship and advising, and the development of an academic portfolio in education, scholarship, and service. Academic rank, tenure-track status, and salary are commensurate with qualifications and College promotion and tenure criteria.

Program Overview

The Genetic Counseling Program offers a Master of Science in Genetic Counseling and enrolls one cohort of eight (8) students each fall. The program is a full-time, daytime curriculum consisting of four fall/spring semesters and one intervening summer session (58 semester credit hours).

Program graduates are eligible to sit for the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) certification examination. Completion of the program does not guarantee certification; graduates are responsible for meeting all certification and licensure requirements.


Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited genetic counseling program

  • Professional board certification in respective field, as applicable

  • Minimum of three years of full-time experience in the field of genetic counseling

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in teaching genetic counseling students

  • Experience with clinical supervision of genetic counseling students

  • Minimum of five years of full-time experience in the field of genetic counseling


Additional Information:

Responsibilities

  • Designing and teaching didactic courses in area(s) of content expertise.

  • Mentoring students with thesis projects.

  • Contributing to program and curriculum assessment and planning activities.

  • Participating in university, community, and professional service.

  • Maintaining a high level of professionalism and integrity to be a role-model for genetic counseling students.

  • Other duties as assigned.
