The Energy Sciences Institute (ESI), in partnership with the Department of Chemistry, Yale University, New Haven, CT, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank to commence as early as July 1, 2026. The ESI focuses on performing fundamental research that is connected to solving problems connected to the energy sector and is one of seven multidisciplinary research institutes at Yale University’s West Campus. Institute faculty hold a primary appointment in a physical science or engineering department. Currently, we seek to identify candidates whose research interests and accomplishments align with the Institute and the Chemistry Department. The Search Committee is particularly interested in individuals with expertise and research interests in the conversion of solar energy into storable chemical energy as well as those with interest in the development of “transitional technologies,” such as clean fuels and carbon capture and sequestration.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline, and an outstanding record of research that demonstrates originality in addressing significant questions in the study of energy broadly defined. Candidates will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise in chemistry.
Applicants should send a cover letter, their curriculum vitae, a statement of research plans (up to three proposals), and a statement of teaching philosophy. Applicants should also arrange for the submission of three letters of recommendation. Please submit all materials through Interfolio at https://apply.interfolio.com/174504 The review of applications will begin on November 5, 2025. For further information, contact the Director of the ESI through Sherry Gray at sherry.gray@yale.edu or the Chair of the Chemistry Department at chemistry.chair@yale.edu.

Professional Conduct Review for New Faculty Hires
The final candidate, upon acceptance of a contingent offer of employment/faculty appointment, may be required to disclose whether they are, or have been, the subject of any disciplinary proceeding (investigation, hearing, etc.) at previous institutions or employers, and may also be subject to a background screening. Candidates who materially misrepresent information on their resume or other application materials are ineligible for hire/appointment. Final candidates may also be required to sign a release to allow Yale to solicit information regarding any substantiated conduct violations from current and/or past employers.
