The Department of Applied and Computational Mathematics (ACM) in the School of Engineering & Applied Science (SEAS) at Yale University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027.
We seek candidates from across applied and computational mathematics. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, numerical analysis and scientific computing; differential equations and mathematical modeling; inverse problems and control; and stochastic methods. We particularly welcome research that advances computational methods, including the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning for discovery in applied mathematics and scientific computing. Research motivated by applications is welcome when its contributions are of broad mathematical or computational significance.
ACM builds on Yale's established strengths in applied mathematics and on the University's strong tradition of collaboration across departments and schools. Its home in SEAS places fundamental mathematical research in close interaction with engineering and the applied sciences. The successful candidate will help shape this growing department and build collaborations across Yale.
Candidates must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, or a related field at the time of hire. Candidates must have demonstrated originality and outstanding promise in research, with the potential to establish an independent research program. Excellence in teaching and advising is essential, and candidates will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a research statement, and a teaching statement through Interfolio. Applicants should also arrange for three confidential letters of recommendation to be submitted through Interfolio.
Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Questions may be directed to Eric Michielssen at eric.michielssen@yale.edu.
