The School of Politics and Global Studies (SPGS) at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in International Relations and/or Comparative Politics, with a research focus on Taiwan, Taiwan-China relations, and the politics of East Asia. We welcome applicants whose research engages Taiwan–China relations and broader regional and geopolitical dynamics, including security, political economy, democratic governance, information environments, great-power competition in East Asia, and the domestic politics of Taiwan.
This position reflects the School’s strategic commitment to deepening expertise on Taiwan and East Asia and to advancing scholarship on one of the most consequential geopolitical relationships of our era. It will also reflect ASU’s commitment to the study of Taiwan via the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ new Taiwan Initiative (learn more at https://thecollege.asu.edu/taiwan-studies-initiative ). The successful candidate will join a collegial and interdisciplinary faculty and will have opportunities to collaborate across the University, including in the Asia Center and Melikian Center for Russian, Eurasian and East European Studies, both located in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. We welcome applications from scholars employing quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods approaches. Appointment will begin August 16, 2027.
