COM | Otolaryngology Faculty

The Assistant Professor/Research Program Director oversees and coordinates all research activities within the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. This position is responsible for managing the department’s research portfolio, supporting faculty investigators, and ensuring regulatory, compliance, and reporting requirements are met.
The Research Program Director serves as a scientific and operational leader for clinical, translational, and outcomes research. The role includes project development, data management, biostatistical analysis, grant and manuscript support, and expansion of clinical trials within the department. The position works closely with faculty, research fellows, residents, medical students, and a research coordinator to promote a productive and collaborative research environment, maintain efficient workflows, and support the department’s publication and academic output, including strong UAMS representation at major Otolaryngology conferences.
Doctorate/PhD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Services Research, Public Health, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
Two (2) years of academic research management, clinical research, or research coordination experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Advanced knowledge of research design, epidemiology, and biostatistics.
Knowledge of IRB processes, research ethics, and clinical trial regulations.
Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Ability to analyze, interpret, and present research data.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including scientific writing and editing.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, research databases, and electronic data capture systems.
Strong collaboration and leadership skills to support a productive research environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in healthcare or Otolaryngology/ENT research.
CCRC, CCRP, or related research certification (or obtained within one year of hire).
Experience with grant development, budgeting, and post-award monitoring.
Experience using REDCap and statistical software such as R, SAS, SPSS, or Stata.

Responsibilities:
Oversees and coordinates departmental clinical, translational, outcomes, and health services research activities.
Develops and supports new research initiatives aligned with departmental priorities.
Expands and manages clinical trials in collaboration with faculty and institutional partners.
Ensures compliance with IRB, regulatory, and institutional research requirements.
Provides research mentorship and operational support to faculty, fellows, residents, and medical students.
Assists with study design, protocol development, data collection, analysis, abstract preparation, and manuscript development.
Manages REDCap databases and departmental research data systems.
Performs and supports biostatistical analysis for research projects and clinical trials.
Tracks departmental publications, presentations, project metrics, and research productivity.
Coordinates conference submissions and supports manuscript preparation and revisions.
Prepares and oversees IRB submissions, amendments, continuing reviews, and compliance reporting.
Assists with grant preparation, budget development, and progress reporting.
Monitors research-related budgets and expenditures.
Facilitates onboarding and research education for trainees and learners.
Develops educational materials related to research methods, ethics, and best practices.
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
