The Department of Counseling at East Texas A&M University, a student-centered doctoral university designated R2: High Research Activity by the Carnegie Classification, invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Professional position beginning Fall 2026. Opportunities for summer teaching are available, contingent on student enrollment and departmental need. The appointment is for up to three years and is renewable.
The successful candidates will contribute to the department’s teaching and service missions. Specifically, we seek an educator who demonstrates excellence in undergraduate teaching and meaningful service to the department, college, university, and profession, as well as expertise in play therapy, school counseling, or student affairs within a student-ready framework.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
TEACHING/SERVICE
· Teach 4-5 undergraduate-level courses in Human Services/Counseling each semester.
· Serve as the Program Coordinator for the BA/BS in Human Services program & the Minor in Counseling.
· Active advisement of undergraduate students.
· Deliver instruction both online, asynchronously and synchronously, and face-to-face at any of the university campuses (i.e., Commerce, Mesquite, Dallas, Plano).
· Prepare syllabi, update course materials, and develop curriculum.
· Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to implement departmental initiatives and programs.
· Maintain knowledge and stay abreast of current trends and best practices in teaching and technological applications in the classroom, including online teaching.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
· Earned doctorate in counseling or counselor education is preferred; a related doctorate in college student affairs/higher education, with evidence of professional identity and experience in counseling or counselor education, will also be considered.
· Academic background (teaching, service) commensurate with the appointment’s rank of assistant professional.
· Evidence of effective teaching at the university level, including online and in-person instruction.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals
· Ability to travel to any university instruction site (e.g., Commerce, Mesquite, Dallas, Plano).
· Work experience/background in counseling, counselor education, or human services.
PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE
· Doctorate in Counseling or Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program.
· Three years or more of university-level teaching experience.
· Synchronous and asynchronous online teaching experience.
· Certification in online teaching and course design.
· Active participation in counseling professional organizations.
· Evidence of licensure/certification or eligibility for licensure/certification as LPC, LCDC, or CSC in Texas.
